January 2 - Back to Work

Today is my first day back at work and the goal is to look nice, not wear all my new clothes in one day, and be comfortable. I sit 90% of the day because I manage marketing so I need clothes that look good and feel good sitting down for what seems like centuries — hence the swishy Uniqlo pants (only $10 like a year ago because of a sale) and long vest (thank you Beacons Closet in New York City)!

My goal last year was also to only buy local or used which I managed to achieve most of the time (except with pants). This outfit is consignment or used except for the pants and cost:
Sweater: $20
Vest: $18
Pants: $10
Shoes: $45
Ring: $100 (made by local artist)
Necklace: gift (bought at Modern Mouse)

* Carrying too many groceries on the train, balancing my phone and a huge pack of toilet paper

Why Create This Blog

I have loved fashion my whole life. I read Vogue and Harpers Bazaar cover to cover and then would  try to guess what designers made what clothes in other magazines or try to guess the designers strangers wore on Beacon Street or Newbury Street in Boston. I loved fashion because of the stories, the whimsy, the beauty, the bright colors, and interesting silhouettes. I didn’t come from a lot but I could open a magazine and there was someone beautiful in something interesting — I was transfixed and enamored and I wanted to emulate these confident and quirkily dressed women. I had two major idols growing up, Coco Chanel and Jane Eyre. Both were powerful women but not because of their looks but because of their intelligence, style, and grace.
